Americans saying thank you!

U.S. Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur (D-Ohio)
...selected as a special member of  AmericanMadeHeroes.com!

Unfair trade agreements are draining the economic lifeblood of our region. Before any additional trade deals are signed, we must examine the devastating legacy of job loss and the decline in real wages due to NAFTA. We need to put a human face on trade and demand fair trade for all and declare economic independence for all of our working families.

Because of their lack of workers rights, the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) and the bill granting Permanent Normal Trade Relations (PNTR) to China are creating increased job loss, more factory shutdowns, and more plants being moved abroad. In Ohio alone, over 160,000 manufacturing jobs have been lost since June 2000.

Alexander Hamilton
"Not only the wealth, but the independence and security of a country, appear to be materially connected with the prosperity of manufacturers. Every nation ... ought to endeavor to possess within itself all the essentials of a national supply. They comprise the means of subsistence, habitation, clothing and defense ... The expediency of encouraging manufactures in the United States, which was not long since deemed very questionable, appears at this time to be pretty generally admitted."

President Obama selects free-trader to be U.S. trade representative

March, 2009 -- "There's clearly been a GAP between President-elect OBAMA's pledges to the American public to truly transform our failed trade policy, and some of the very important economic appointments he's made who represent people who help implement or at least support the failed status quo." -- Lori Wallach (Global Trade Watch)

Mr.Kirk made his name in politics serving as mayor of Dallas, where he was known as a staunch supporter of Free Trade agreements, and NAFTA in particular. He was a big proponent of the trade corridor from Mexico up through Texas, a road he once referred to as a "NAFTA Freeway". His nomination was welcomed by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, and the National Association of Manufacturers. Advocates for a change in trade policy are not so happy.
