"We cannot sit by idly while American jobs are being shipped overseas, our manufacturing base is being eroded, our wages decline, and our
economy is threatened by unfair trade agreements and ballooning trade deficits. Congress needs to take dramatic action to stop the downward
economic spiral." -- Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur - 2015
Unfair trade agreements are draining the economic lifeblood of our region. Before any additional trade deals are signed, we
must examine the devastating legacy of job loss and the decline in real wages due to NAFTA. We need to put a human face on
trade and demand fair trade for all and declare economic independence for all of our working families.
Because of their lack of workers rights, the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) and the bill granting Permanent
Normal Trade Relations (PNTR) to China are creating increased job loss, more factory shutdowns, and more plants being moved
abroad.

"Not only the wealth, but the independence and security of a country, appear
to be materially connected with the prosperity of manufacturers. Every nation ... ought to endeavor to possess within
itself all the essentials of a national supply. They comprise the means of subsistence, habitation, clothing and
defense ... The expediency of encouraging manufactures in the United States, which was not long since deemed very
questionable, appears at this time to be pretty generally admitted."

Patriotism, Jobs Primary Motivations for 'Buying American'
PRINCETON, NJ -- Forty-five percent of Americans say they recently made a special effort to buy products made in the United States. When asked why,
these shoppers mainly cited patriotic or altruistic goals related to the national economy, including creating and keeping jobs in the U.S., rather than
product-specific considerations such as quality, safety, or cost.
