Carol Whitehead, co-founder of The Rutherford Institute, devoted wife of John W. Whitehead, loving mother of five children, grandmother of two and friend to many, passed away on June 3, 2009. Her life was a testament to her great love for her husband, family and the organization she helped found.
The Rutherford Institute has emerged as one of the nation's leading advocates of civil liberties and human rights, litigating in the courts and educating the public on a wide spectrum of issues affecting individual freedom in the United States and around the world.
The Institute’s mission is twofold: to provide legal services in the defense of religious and civil liberties and to educate the public on important issues affecting their constitutional freedoms.

itself all the essentials of a national supply. They comprise the means of subsistence, habitation, clothing and
defense ... The expediency of encouraging manufactures in the United States, which was not long since deemed very
questionable, appears at this time to be pretty generally admitted."
