Robert J. Smith III, the company's president and chief executive officer, is dead-set against ever moving production
overseas.
"We wouldn't consider it in 100 years," said Smith, whose grandfather and great-grandfather started the company in 1921.
Offshoring jobs in search of higher profits is a mistake, Smith said, because it ignores
manufacturing's larger purpose in U.S. society.
