Mayor Menino says in his opposing Walmart's attempt to enter Boston neighborhoods and thus destroying many local businesses that "These mom-and-pops invested their lives in their businesses. Sixty percent of every dollar that's made here, stays here. With Wal-Mart, it goes right back to Arkansas. To have this giant come in and wipe them out is unfair." For his focus on local communities and promoting local "American Made" USA jobs we applaud and welcome Mayor Menino as a true American Made Hero!

In a recent telephone interview, Menino criticized Wal-Mart for what he called "throwing money around" to Boston nonprofits and suggested the national retailer is trying buy the groups' support.

A lifelong resident of Hyde Park, Mayor Menino understands that a city is only as strong as its neighborhoods. He ushered in the nation's first citywide Main Streets program to support small businesses and spur local economic development. Boston is also rediscovering the importance of USA manufacturing jobs for our economy and for our future. Jobs build communities, industries and economies; when jobs disappear, so does our ability to stand strong and grow.
