Sterlingwear of Boston is the classic American company, making classic American clothing in classic American style. They are a solidly rooted family
company, stable in their dealings, bold in their approach, and committed to building one of the best American-made brands ever produced.
The story of Sterlingwear begins way back in 1920 when 16 year old Lorenzo Fredella boarded a ship bound for America. Life in his hometown offered few opportunities, and like so many immigrants of that time, he saw America as an opportunity to find work to support his family and make his way in the world.” |

May Mon Aye received a scholarship for $10,000 for winning first prize in “The Catholic Charities’ Laboure’ Design Contest for her design interpretation of “The Little Black Dress”. A full-page article on September 28, 2008 was written in the Style section of the Boston Globe about the Laboure Design Contest winners, focusing on May Mon Aye and her winning Little Black Dress design. May is currently the head designer at Sterling Wear of Boston, where her variations on their “pea-coat” designs are being produced and sold in their store.
May Mon Aye has always loved fashion and everything about fashion since she was a little girl. She began with designing for two-dimensional paper dolls,

Alexander Hamilton |
"Not only the wealth, but the independence and security of a country, appear
to be materially connected with the prosperity of manufacturers. Every nation ... ought to endeavor to possess within
itself all the essentials of a national supply. They comprise the means of subsistence, habitation, clothing and
defense ... The expediency of encouraging manufactures in the United States, which was not long since deemed very
questionable, appears at this time to be pretty generally admitted."
