"After many years of hard work, we managed to build a successful business. None of this could have happened if not for the garment center an area where zoning law protects apparel manufacturing space." --- "Manufacturing's influence on the health of the American economy cannot be understated. If we are to retain our status as a world power, we must focus on the creation of sustainable manufacturing jobs that will support a strong middle-class." |

"Manufacturing's influence on the health of the American economy cannot be understated. If we are to retain our status as a

"This week, we joined over 1,000 individuals at a rally in the heart of the Garment District to address growing concerns regarding the outsourcing of American jobs."
For the efforts of Nanette Lepore and Robert Savage in raising awareness of the importance of America's domestic
manufacturing and for their efforts at preserving the manufacturing jobs in New York City's garment district, they
have earned our special recognition and applause as
American Made Heroes.
"Manufacturing's influence on the health of the American economy cannot be understated. If we are to retain our status as a
world power, we must focus on the creation of sustainable manufacturing jobs
that will support a strong middle-class.
Whether we're talking about the production of steel or clothing, for every manufacturing job that is created in this
country, up to six spin-off jobs are generated through supply and distribution chains. Manufacturing jobs pay a higher wage
than service jobs, and create a significant amount of the patents that keep America's economy on the cutting edge of
innovation."
"A statue of an immigrant with a sewing machine stands at the center of this district, honoring the people who came to work here from around the world, and the sidewalks are carved with the names of our designers. American fashion has a rich history. We want to make sure it has a future and that depends on preserving New York Citys Garment Center."

"Not only the wealth, but the independence and security of a country, appear
to be materially connected with the prosperity of manufacturers. Every nation ... ought to endeavor to possess within
itself all the essentials of a national supply. They comprise the means of subsistence, habitation, clothing and
defense ... The expediency of encouraging manufactures in the United States, which was not long since deemed very
questionable, appears at this time to be pretty generally admitted."
